(AUSTIN, TX – April 24, 2025) – CAIR Action-TX and CAIR-TX today called on Muslims and allies of all faiths and backgrounds to turn out for Texas Muslim Capitol Day on April 29th, 2025 after anti-Muslim extremists called on bigots to assemble outside the Texas Capitol to demonize Muslims and disrupt their civic engagement efforts.
Every year, hundreds of Muslims visit the Texas Capitol to meet with their elected officials and discuss policy issues of importance to the community, including civil rights, religious freedom, and racial equality.
Earlier this week, the notorious anti-Muslim hate group known as RAIR called on anti-Muslim extremists to rally outside the State Capitol in an attempt to disrupt Texas Muslim Capitol Day. The hate group has also been circulating false information to Texas legislators attacking CAIR, the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights organization, and the broader Texas Muslim community.
In a statement, CAIR Action-TX Advocacy and Policy Coordinator, Sameeha Rizvi said:
“CAIR Action-TX encourages all Texas Muslims, and our neighbors of all faiths and backgrounds, to join us at the Texas State Capitol on April 29th to both promote civic engagement and stand up to hate. Every Texan has the constitutional right to petition the government, and we must not allow hate groups to threaten any community’s right to visit the Texas State Capitol.”
“To be clear, RAIR Foundation is not a credible organization—it is an extremist, conspiracy-driven website known for promoting anti-Muslim bigotry, disinformation, and far-right nationalism. Its founder, Amy Mek, has been publicly exposed for her role in inciting online hate and amplifying xenophobic narratives.
RAIR’s hatred of Islam is so extreme that it even interviewed, platformed and praised Taleb Al-Abdulmohsen, the anti-Muslim Saudi atheist who went on to commit the horrific Christmas market massacre attack in Germany .
“This hate group’s targeting of CAIR-TX and the Texas Muslim is not about public safety or civil society—it is a transparent attempt to intimidate Muslims from engaging in the democratic process.
“This attack comes in direct response to the success of Texas Muslim Capitol Day, which has brought hundreds of Texas Muslims—families, students, faith leaders— together peacefully to advocate for their rights, meet with their elected officials, and participate in the legislative process. This is what democracy looks like. The RAIR Foundation’s attempt to disrupt this civic engagement is a threat not just to Muslims, but to the democratic values that underpin this state and this nation.
“We will not be silenced, we will not be intimidated, and, God willing, we will not allow fringe hate groups to dictate who belongs in our Capitol.
“We call on public officials, community organizations, and allies across the state to join us in standing firm against bigotry. Texas belongs to all of us—and we intend to keep it that way.
” William White, Director of CAIR-Houston, a CAIR Action-TX Partner organization, remarked:
“We refuse to be silenced and stand down. Our right as Americans—citizens or not, Muslim or not—is to engage our elected officials. These blatant racist attacks should have no room in our public policy decisions. Governor Abbott’s public targeting of East Plano Islamic Center (EPIC) and the fearmongering around Muslim civic engagement are not just discriminatory—they are un-American. Now, with groups planning to protest Texas Muslim Capitol Day, the message is clear: our community is being intentionally marginalized. We reject that narrative entirely. We call on all Texans with a conscience to stand with and support the Muslim community and for all Texan Muslims to register and attend Texas Muslim Capitol Day.”
CAIR Action-TX is an affiliate of CAIR Action, a 501(c)(4) organization. Our mission is to engage, educate, and mobilize Muslim voters, train emerging leaders, and champion policy priorities that enhance the well-being and representation of Muslim communities. Through our work, we aim to foster a more equitable and inclusive democratic society where the rights and voices of Muslims are acknowledged and respected.
