(WASHINGTON, D.C., April 30, 2025) — As communities around the world prepare to observe International Workers’ Day, CAIR Action is calling on Muslims and all people of conscience to join May Day marches across the United States to defend workers’ rights, immigrant justice, civil liberties, and human rights, including the right to stand for Palestine.
This May Day comes amid alarming trends: students are being arrested for peaceful protest, immigrant workers are facing deportation for exercising their rights, and Palestinians continue to suffer under a deepening humanitarian crisis.
“May Day has always been a time to stand up for the dignity and rights of working people,” said Basim Elkarra, Executive Director of CAIR Action. “This year, it is also a time to defend our basic freedoms—the right to speak out against injustice, the right to organize for better working conditions, and the right to live without fear of persecution.”
CAIR Action’s May Day demands include:
- An immediate end to the repression of free speech and the targeting of students and activists who advocate for Palestinian rights.
- Protection of undocumented workers and immigrant families from intimidation and deportation.
- Strengthened labor protections to ensure fair wages, safe workplaces, and the right to unionize without retaliation.
- A commitment from our government and institutions to uphold human rights domestically and internationally, including ending U.S. support for violence abroad.
“This May Day, we lift our voices for those who have been silenced and stand firmly in the long tradition of faith, labor, and civil rights leaders who fought for a more just and inclusive society,” Elkarra added.
CAIR Action encourages all community members to find a local May Day event, show up in solidarity, and work together to build a future where dignity, equality, and freedom are not dreams, but guarantees.
CAIR Action is a 501(c)4 organization.
