Bookkeeper / Accountant

Position: Bookkeeper / Accountant
Type: Part-time
Location: Remote
Reports To: Operations Manager

About Us

We are a mission-driven organization operating across a 501(c)(4), PAC, and Super PAC, advancing impactful civic engagement and advocacy. Our work sits at the intersection of policy, community, and electoral strategy—requiring rigorous financial stewardship and compliance.

The Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and highly reliable Bookkeeper / Accountant to manage day-to-day financial operations across multiple entities. This role is critical to ensuring accuracy, transparency, and compliance in a complex regulatory environment that includes nonprofit and political finance. This role is strictly financial/administrative and must comply with internal firewall and segregation requirements.

You will work closely with leadership to maintain clean books, support reporting, and ensure all financial activities align with federal and state requirements.

What You’ll Do

Financial Operations

  • Maintain accurate general ledgers across C4, PAC, and Super PAC entities
  • Process accounts payable/receivable, payroll coordination, and bank reconciliations with entity-specific approvals, documentation, and controls
  • Manage monthly and year-end close processes

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service and Federal Election Commission requirements
  • Track and categorize political, lobbying, and operational expenditures by entity and activity type to support accurate reporting and permissible-use analysis
  • Support preparation of Form 990 and campaign finance reports (state and federal)
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support external audits

Financial Insights

  • Prepare monthly financial reports, including budget vs. actuals
  • Monitor cash flow and flag variances or risks
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes across entities while maintaining required segregation

Systems & Controls

  • Maintain accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks or similar platforms)
  • Implement and enforce internal controls across entities
  • Ensure proper segregation of funds and activities between C4, PAC, and Super PAC
  • Support cost allocation and inter-entity reimbursement processes where applicable
  • Support time-sensitive federal independent expenditure reporting workflows by maintaining complete transaction-level documentation
  • Administer vendor records with entity separation, including maintaining separate SOWs/invoices by entity and supporting shared-vendor firewall/clean-team documentation where applicable
  • Comply with and support internal firewall and confidentiality requirements

What We’re Looking For

  • 3–5+ years of bookkeeping or accounting experience
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting fundamentals
  • High attention to detail and ability to manage multiple entities
  • Experience with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks)
  • Experience with political organizations, PACs, or nonprofits
  • Familiarity with campaign finance reporting and compliance
  • Experience supporting audits and tax filings
  • CPA or equivalent certification (a plus)

Why This Role Matters

This is not a standard bookkeeping role. You will be stewarding financial integrity across entities that operate under distinct but overlapping regulatory frameworks. Your work ensures that our organization remains compliant, transparent, and effective in advancing its mission.
