CAIR Action Congratulates Lateefah Simon on Historic Victory as First Muslim Elected to Congress from California  

(OAKLAND, CA – 11/6/24 ) – CAIR Action proudly congratulates Lateefah Simon on her groundbreaking victory in California’s 12th Congressional District, making her the first Muslim to represent California in the U.S. Congress. Simon’s victory is a monumental milestone, not only for California’s Muslim community but for all those who value representation and equity in government. Her commitment to justice, shaped by her years of advocacy and public service, promises to bring a powerful voice to Congress on behalf of marginalized communities.

Simon’s career has been distinguished by her service as Director of the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) board, her work in the nonprofit sector, and as a California State University trustee. Her dedication to civil rights and her extensive experience in both advocacy and public service make her exceptionally prepared to serve the people of California in Congress.
