Paterson, NJ – April 25, 2025 – CAIR Action NJ and the Unity & Justice Fund have released the results of the first-ever political poll focused solely on New Jersey’s Muslim electorate, offering a revealing snapshot of early preferences in the 2025 gubernatorial race.
The poll asked one simple but critical question:
“Who is your first choice to become the next Governor of New Jersey?”
Conducted via text message between April 16–17, 2025, the poll was sent to 58,226 likely Muslim registered voters across New Jersey and received 834 responses.

Key Findings:
- Mayor Ras Baraka (D) leads the field with 45.40% of Muslim respondents naming him as their top choice.
- However, 35.20% of voters remain undecided, signaling a major opportunity for candidates to engage with this growing bloc.
- Other candidates are below 5% but has some support including Former Radio Host Bill Spadea (R) at 3.20%, Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill (D-NJ 11) at 2.20%, and Mayor Steve Fulop (D) trails at 1.90%.
“While Mayor Baraka currently holds a strong early lead, the significant number of undecided voters shows that no candidate should take the Muslim vote for granted,” said CAIR Action NJ Senior Advisor Ali Aljarrah, “New Jersey Muslims are politically engaged, diverse, and paying close attention to who truly represents their values.”
New Jersey is home to one of the largest and most active Muslim electorates in the nation, with an estimated 177,000 registered Muslim voters statewide. This historic poll offers an early indicator of how this key bloc could shape the outcome of the 2025 election, particularly as the field continues to evolve and candidates ramp up their outreach efforts.
