WASHINGTON, DC – 11/6/2024 – Following Donald Trump’s election victory, CAIR Action, one of the nation’s largest Muslim political organizations, calls on the president-elect to fulfill his stated commitments to end the war in Gaza, prevent further escalation in the region, and reconsider domestic policies that could harm minority communities.
This election cycle witnessed an unprecedented focus on U.S. foreign policy, particularly regarding America’s continued military support for Israel. Many voters, unable to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris due to her administration’s support of military aid to Israel and reluctance to enforce a ceasefire, chose instead to back pro-peace candidates like the Green Party’s Jill Stein, Justice for All’s Cornel West, and the Libertarian Party’s Chase Oliver. This shift illustrates the public’s growing demand for a U.S. foreign policy that prioritizes peace, justice, and human rights.
CAIR Action recognizes that this election has renewed concerns in the immigrant and American Muslim communities over potential discriminatory policies such as the mass deportation of undocumented families and the Muslim Ban, which in the past divided families, disrupted careers, and contradicted the values of inclusion that Americans hold dear. We urge the incoming administration to take this opportunity to promote unity, equality, and respect for all communities.
President-elect Trump has publicly pledged to end the war in Gaza and work toward de-escalation in the region. CAIR Action calls on him to honor these commitments and take meaningful steps to ensure a peaceful resolution. American Muslims, along with all who advocate for human rights, expect this administration to pursue diplomacy and prioritize humanitarian solutions.
“The genocide in Gaza was a pivotal issue for many voters this year,” said Basim Elkarra, Executive Director of CAIR Action. “Our community and other Americans concerned with human rights sent a strong message: they will only support leaders who commit to meaningful peace and justice, both at home and abroad. We hope this administration will follow through on its promises to end the suffering in Gaza and prevent further regional violence.”
In the months ahead, CAIR Action will work to hold this administration accountable on both domestic and foreign policy fronts. CAIR Action plans to advocate against any reintroduction of discriminatory measures and support policies that foster justice and dignity.
CAIR Action is a 501(c)4 organization. Our mission is to engage, educate, and mobilize Muslim voters, train emerging leaders, and champion policy priorities that enhance the well-being and representation of Muslim communities. Through our work, we aim to foster a more equitable and inclusive democratic society where the rights and voices of Muslims are acknowledged and respected.
