CAIR, CAIR Action Call on American Politicians to Cut Ties with ‘Israel First’ Megadonor Miriam Adelson After President Trump’s Revelations

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation’s largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, and CAIR Action, its advocacy affiliate, today called on political leaders to cut ties with “Israel First” megadonor Miriam Adelson after President Trump revealed the level of pressure she has placed on the government to adopt pro-Israel policies and that she refused to say what nation she loved more, the United States or Israel.

In his speech yesterday to the Israeli Knesset, the president claimed that Adelson has $60 billion in the bank and had visited the White House more than any others to demand that the government adopt pro-Israel policies.

Trump also said: “I’m going to get her in trouble with this — but I actually asked her once, ‘So Miriam: I know you love Israel. What do you love more, the United States or Israel?’ She refused to answer. That means that might be an issue, I must say.”

In a joint statement, Washington, D.C., based CAIR and CAIR Action said:

“We welcome President Trump’s honesty in sharing the level of influence Miriam Adelson wields over our government, as well as exposing her refusal to say whether the United States or Israel is more important to her. We encourage President Trump and all American political leaders to reject support from Ms. Adelson and anyone else who supports genocide and prioritizes the interests of a foreign government over our own nation.”

Yesterday, CAIR called on U.S. and international media outlets to demand, unsupervised access to Gaza and the freed Palestinian hostages, who are now describing the torture and abuse they suffered under Israeli detention.

CAIR also said that the International Criminal Court (ICC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and other entities investigating the Israeli government’s war crimes in Gaza should consider the Israeli government’s arson of food supplies, homes and civilian infrastructure just before they pulled back from occupied territory as “further evidence” of genocidal intent.

CAIR is a 501(c)3 organization and America’s largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance understanding of Islam, protect civil rights, promote justice, and empower American Muslims.

CAIR Action is a 501(c)4 organization. Through its work, CAIR Action aims to foster a more equitable and inclusive democratic society where the rights and voices of Muslims are acknowledged and respected.
